What's the difference between Advanced Language Arts and English I Honors?
Students in this course move from 7th grade language arts directly to 9th grade material-essentially skipping 8th grade curriculum. The expectation is that they are ready to handle accelerated pacing and are eager for reading and writing challenges.
Who can be in this class?
In order to qualify, a student must first earn a level 4 or 5 on FCAT Reading. Consideration of work ethic and aptitude for reading and writing should also be considered.
What if a student is enrolled and then decides this level of coursework would suit them better as a true 9th grader?
At the first quarter progress report, any student earning a C or below should take special care to examine their situation. At that time a conference may also be in order to evaluate the student's potential to be successful and remain in the course.
What is the benefit of taking a high school course in middle school?

- Exposure to classic literature and advanced readings improves higher-order/critical thinking skills and improves vocabulary.
